Default Peak District roads

I'm in the Peak District camping this weekend, so thought i'd go up on the bike and ride some of the roads up there.

I'm camping near Matlock, so thought i'd take a ride up to Glossop area and back down the Snake pass. Any other suggestions of different routes/roads to use up there will be welcomed I'm just after a few hours riding on the Saturday before heading back to camp for dinner and pub

Good roads there "The Cat & Fiddle" is a must.

and not a road to ride on, the cable car up the "Heights of Abraham" in Matlock Bath is fun.

Mogs - been up the cable cars many years ago so probably do that on the sunday and stop for fish & chips

Right - think i'm looking at the following route:

1) Matlock to Buxton (either A6 or A515 - any local knowledge on which is best??)

2) Buxton to Macclesfield on A54 & A53 (think this is the Cat & Fiddle??)

3) up & across to Glossop

4) Down the Snake Pass

5) then head back down to Bakewell, and then back to Matlock.

Anybody with local knowledge that can comment on this, or any better roads??

Cheers muchly

Andy.

I've ridden around there a fair bit and the route you have looks pretty good. If you can get hold of and OS map of the area you'll be able to work out where the good twisties are. Happy riding, I love riding in that part of the world.

From the traffic lights in the centre of Glossop take the B6105 (up the hill past the Norfolk pub)for half a mile. Turn left (after the bungalow in the field) on to Cemetry Road. Through Hadfield Village ("League of Gentleman" fame) to Tintwistle.

Turn right onto the A628 Woodhead Road. 360 at the Flouch round-a-bout. Head back, but pick up the B6105 (Devils Elbow,), the road slips off between two reservoirs. Turn left at the traffic lights in Glossop (A57)

The Buxton to Whaley Bridge road is my fave. You can go from Matlock across country to A515 and follow that up to Buxton, up to Whaley Bridge (very nice twisty bits, not as busy as cat & fiddle), back down A6 through Bakewell and back to Matlock.

Snake pass is now a 50 limit all the way up it Absolutely gutted when I found that out last weekend.

The road from Hope village through Edale is fun and will take you towards Chapel-en-le-frith and close for Glossop /cat and fiddle etc.

have fun

Thanks for all your suggestions - I should find some pretty decent riding up there now

I'm now doing the ride on the Sunday, as Saturday afternoon will be spent at a local pub watching the national (and probably loosing a few quid!)

Furrybean - If you fancy a ride then let me know in the next couple of hours and i'll pm you my number so that we can meet up.

Have a good weekend all.
