Default FAO cops on here (Job related)

Right guys, you tell me what you think about this.

I am transferring forces 2 1/2 yrs into the job due to travelling distances and the desire to work for my home force. During my time, I have spent the entirety of that service on a 24/7 shift, (response whatever you want to call it).

I received a call today from my new force telling me that I am going to be working in the CJU in their case review team. To say that I'm disappointed is a bit of an understatement, however I try to take positives from everything I do. This also means that I will be reverting back to a 9-5 position.

What do the rest of you think about this? I would have thought this kind of position would be better suited to someone who is nearing the end of their service and is looking for a cushy desk job, not someone who is barely out of their probation and chomping at the bit to bash doors in?

If its a way in to the force you want to work in then do it. Give it some time then apply to go to back to team.

Hmmmm. Very odd placement. Maybe they want to make sure you are up to speed on their own file system, which will differ from what you have used up 'till now. (Still the MG file system, but with a local twist)

Positives? Weekends off. Negs, commuter traffic every day.

File managers are usually cops with more service, simply 'cos they know more than young'uns. However, our force use a lot of civilians in the CJU's as well. I would hate it, Couldn't do it at all. If you want the move though, go, learn, then moveon whenever you can. They can't keep you there if you want to apply for jobs internally.

It's a scary thing to do, but if it's what you want, do it!

Pete,
(Ten years GMP)

My current force has totally civilianised the whole CJU team. I didnt actually think that cops still undertook these roles, and Pete, your thoughts were my sentiments too.

I would say that I have done pretty decent files during my short service however I never anticipated going onto a file checking team so early in my service and particularly with the transfer. They did say it was a permanent placement so I guess I am going to have to apply to community teams etc when they arise. The only problem I see with that is that no-one has actually been able to see my graft on a shift, which could put me at a disadvantage to those coming from response teams.

On a twist, I might actually see when theyre recruiting for air support, as I really fancy doing that at some stage.
