Default Vehicle Tracking Petition!!!

I'm not sure if this has been posted before, sorry if it has.

This is genuine, I've signed up

980,00 now but will it stop them? I doubt it.

Once again, the email's utter, utter *****. The petition is a public originated one, it just happens to be on the government website. 10 seconds looking over the site will show anyone this, you can also propose your own petitions. I proposed "Down with this sort of thing" but it was rejected as frivolous, the bounders "apparently there is only one month left to register your objection to
the 'Pay as you go' road tax.", just an utter joke. And again, talking about "the government's proposal" when there is no formal proposal. If this is debate then count me out, it just proves you can get people to sign up to anything on the internet.

For the rest of it, I've said it all before the last 2 times this came out But the covering email is new. If you have to resort to misinformation to forward your cause you've already lost, and it's just more ammunition for anyone who'd rather ignore the results- they can quite legitimately point out that it was promoted under false pretenses.

I was thinking the same.

Yes, it's legit. It's still not a government poll. It's a petition started by a private citizen.

"We the undersigned petition the prime minister... submitted by Peter Roberts."

Understand where you're coming from Northy, but if it's gathered enough momentum to make the national news and radio shows (even if it's the naff Sarah Kennedy's) then it must have reached the attention of the government's media watchers, and perhaps it will make a small contribution to making them realise what a rebellion there will be if they do go down this route?

I tend to agree with this, which is why I signed the petition. If enough people sign up to it, and the government think they will lose enough votes over it, they may re-think.

Maybe those of us who think it's not such a bad idea to consider the future should start up a petition in support of it. I hired a car in Toronto last year and it had some sort of pickup/transmitter. When I got back to Britain and got a subsequent credit card statement I found I had been billed for using the 'controlled' section of the trip to Niagara falls. I had and have no problem with that. Sooner or later we all have to ante up and pay for the damage we do. Or our kids will anyway.

I agree with the petition about the monitoring of personal movements. That would be worrying and unacceptable if that was what it was about. But is it about that. The wording of the petition sounds a tad hysterical to me.
