is the ignition connected? i ahd that problem with my early sv. if not you need a resistor. I think with the modern models you may well need the clocks conncted, but im sure some racers have taken them off so they should be able to help.

the ign. is connected to the pickup on the case {tone ring} and the ohms are correct for the unit. the coils too......no fire.... some bikes have a tilt switch in case of a crash but i think that kills the fuel, not the fire.??????? this thing is gonna be a trip to ride, busa rear shock,750 gsxr forks/brakes/stabilizer, sv650 frame,sv1000 inj. motor, custom center exit undertail exhaust. whaddayathink? thanks for the help

Ok, given the nature of what you're doing, more information gives a better chance of a winning response.

The frame and engine have mated up OK, quite impressed by that.
You have a 2005 SV1000 engine?
You say you have Carbs & ECU, is the wiring harness from an 99-02 SV650, an 03-08 SV650, or an SV1000? Are you using Carbs (99-02) or Throttle bodies (injectors - 03-08 ). You say you have carberated coils, do you mean the coils from a 99-02 SV650, and is this the same as the wiring harness for the rest of the bike? It's likely there's a simple explaination but there's way too much detail missing for people to get there quickly right now.

Good luck!

Thumbs up Re: 650/1000 conversion

i had to do heavy mods to the frame to make room, the bike now has the correct injectors, harness, throttle bodies, and ecu for the engine. the coils are off of the carbed 650. that is why i keep going to the dash cluster to see why the coils won't fire. all of the 1000 parts are for the same year 05' i think. can you post pics on this thing? if it will help out i will try it. thank you all for your help........and patience!!!

For the carbed SV650 the dash was not important at all, you could unplug it and the bike ran just fine. Not sure if this is the case for the SV1000's electrics though. My first port of call would be to see if any voltage is being sent to the low voltage side of the coils when the engine is turning and trace back from there. Do you have a 2005 SV1000 wiring diagram?

No, the SV650 is made as-is. There was, however, a Japan spec SV400 with a reduced capacity engine (I don't remember if they reduced the bore, stroke or both), and I believe a single front disc.

Or did they increase the bore for the 650?

Zadar is the man to ask.

Both the SV650 and SV400 were introduced at the same time, the SV400 was intended for the Japanese market but made it across to the UK (and many other countries) as a Grey Import along with the other 400cc bikes.

Zadar reckons it was designed for 400 and then sized up (both stroked and bored btw), based on some of the weaknesses of the first motor. Suzuki say otherwise, they've always said it was joint design. Me, I think that Zadar's logic's good but that everything that supports his version could also be explained by slightly ropey design, so it's not clear. But the crank design does suggest that it was designed to do both roles.
