Valve clearance, should I take it?
With all the notes I collected from previous threads, thanks org. did the valve clearance check today.
Front cylinder IN = 0.11 & 0.09 Front cylinder EX = 0.25 & 0.22 Rear cylinder IN = 0.12 & 0.11 Rear cylinder EX = 0.21 & 0.23 Now, Haynes says IN should be 0.1 to 0.2 EX should be 0.2 to 0.3 So, as you can see only front IN at 0.09 is just out therefore, since I don't have the tools or experience to do the re-shim, would you take it to a dealer for 0.01mm ??? Checked & re-checked all of the measurements, on the 0.09mm valve, 0.1mm would not go in but 0.09 went in not loose but easy, so I am thinking is actually 0.095mm or so, if you could measure to that level. Should I pay out or wait a while what to the org think??? |

Re: Valve clearance, should I take it???
What age is the bike?
My clearences were out very slightly, and my motorcycle engineering mate said he'd personally leave it as it was, so I did. |

Re: Valve clearance, should I take it???
If it was my bike, I would do it sooner rather than later.
But then thats me, I don't want things failing because i couldnt be bothered...I always thing the most serious alternative (worst case scenario) would always be more expensive than just gettign it done now |

Re: Valve clearance, should I take it???
The limits as given are designed to be OK until the next schedualed check which is another 15000 miles or so.Therefore Id say that if it is that close you could leave it until its done another 12000ish miles and check again.
