Default Whatever happened to....

Whatever happened to v-twin litre half-faired sports tourers? Once upon a time there were several around - the SV Thou, Honda Firestorm, Aprilia Falco. There was also the Triumph Sprint RS for those who wanted an extra cylinder. Now, nobody seems to make one. The closest that I can find is the Shiver 750GT.

I'm wondering about swapping the Tiger 1050 for something that's a bit more nimble through London traffic, whilst also being happy on long-distance motorway journeys. Twin or triple preferred. Any suggestions?

I wouldn't mind a Street Triple. It's a pity that there isn't a half-faired version. I loved my Speed Triple, but the lack of wind protection meant that it was a pain on long motorway rides. The Tiger is great on motorways, but top heavy and not so nimble in traffic.

Sadly emissions killed the Litre twins (in Suzuki's and Kawasaki's cases) along with the WSB rule Bias going from 750 fours and 1000 twins to 1000 fours (and the 10/1198 ).
They may make a comeback with the WSB rule changes putting the bias back to bikes running 17" rims in 2013/14 (albeit as 1200's)

The only ones close are the Monster and Hyper 1100's, and KTM Super Dukes (but that's going to go to 1200 in the near future*)

I guess that's a good point. The Tigger uses nearly a tankful going from London to Wiltshire.

Maybe I should go back to a SV, though I prefer the extra grunt of a larger bike.

Ewan and Charley took a massive dump on all the aforementioned bikes by thrusting bmw into the limelight.

I've got a street with the extra Triumph screen on it I'm getting used to having slightly less wind protection on it compared to the gixer. Its a belter of a bike for everyday use and lovely and light for traffic work...

It is a shame that the big V-twins that your asking about have died out...
