Did you read the above thread about the tool needed to lock everything on K8 models onwards?

(tool needed: http://www.bikersdiscountstore.co.uk...ools-pd-51.php)

yes, have you read my comments? Yes yours has auto tick over but that wont have any effect when checking throttle balance and probably not even be a problem while adjusting it either

Could sort your TBs as well I expect if you have a chat with them. I'm not a huge fan (though it's been a long time since I darkened their portals) but you are local, would be worth a call.

So I don't need to lock the auto idle? I can't understand why everyone who has done it in that thread has said they needed to then? Is this just for checking it?

I don't have a Carbtune, so if I did need the Healtech tool and a Carbtune or similar then the cost would be probably triple what I'd pay a dealer to do it.

If I didn't need the tool then a Carbtune investment would make sense.

Ive just been reading through the thread on here about balancing the later throttle bodies and indeed the recommendation is to use the kit to lock the auto tickover although even this isnt 100% certain.
Anyway to CHECK the balance you definitely wont need it and you dont need a carbtune or similar either. I did mine (ok K6 but the principal is the same) with 5m of clear plastic tube of a size to fit on the throttle body tappings which are bit difficult to access. You remove the rubber cap on each one and connect the tubing after having poured a little water into it. Make sure to fix the tube so that it runs upwards from each connection then drops down to form a U where the water must stay trapped. Start the engine and any imbalance will make the U of water higher on one side than the other meaning adjustment is needed.....

Genius. Thanks for the tip. So glad the SV is a twin! I'll try this to at least know if it needs doing or not. If it looks ok I know to try other things.

Thanks for all the help and advice.

For me it worked well with an imbalance in water level of 5 or 6 cm and it was easy to adjust the connector bar between the two bodies to zero it. However for the later models I now see that the adjustment isnt the same as its done with a screw on each intake and I cant see how you know whether to undo one or tighten the other - either should achieve the same result! In fact how adjusting these screws ensures the butterflies are equal at all openings is a mystery to me but anyway at least you can check if balance is a problem or not.
Be careful not to allow water to be sucked in to an intake while doing this. It could happen if one end of the tube came off its connector so that suction was applied to one end only and is why I recommend using a decent length of tube to form a deep U.
Let us know how you get on....

I am surprise R1ffR4ff did not suggest this but have you tried redex, if your injectors are a bit blocked they can affect the smoothness of the engine especially low down as the oxygen sensor tries to make sense of the results it is getting and adjust the mixture by altering the injector timing...

Good point. Some fuel cleaner and an,"Italian" Tune-up can work wonders

Took my SV out of Mothballs last week.Always starts good with fuel cleaner in the gas.Forgotten just how smooth and powerful for their size these Motorcycles are.
