Default Science

I like science. I like what science has given us and continues to give us. Science is under attack though, maybe because it's telling us things we don't want to hear (eg global warming) or maybe it's because scientists investigate things that appear ludicrous.

As an example, I bet you didn't know what causes the sound of a dripping tap.

Now you do...

In their defense, curiousity is what science is all about and it often leads to breakthroughs in unrelated fields (although even I struggle to think how this particular knowledge could help).

(I still like science)

Science is rubbish - they still can't answer the simplest questions.

Such as which is the fastest colour?

Very obviously its white.
The fastest vehicles built to convey humans have always been white.

Science is a misnomer.
All scientists ever do is discover how much they don't (and will never) know.
Just ask them to explain how gravity works.
They can't.
They can merely describe the effects of gravity.
Anyway, you don't need to be a scientific genius to know that apples are for pies...

I usually keep two small pebbles, one in each jacket pocket.
They are different colours and patterns.
One is striped, the other spotted.
They were found lying beside each other on a beach.
I often get them out and look at them and wonder how they came to be so different in appearance yet beside each other on a beach.
And I absolutely do not ever want to hear any explanation as to why, because that would remove the wonder.

Far better to wonder at nature's majesty than to tear it apart trying to understand how it works.

More useful to know how to fix it.

Plumber 1, Scientist 0

My dad has this quote in a frame on the back of his lavvy door:

"The society which scorns excellence in plumbing as a humble activity and tolerates shoddiness in philosophy because it is an exalted activity will have neither good plumbing nor good philosophy: neither its pipes nor its theories will hold water".
John W. Gardner

In vacuum all the colours are equally fast, but in air red is slightly faster.

The calculation of wavelength dependent dispersion in a medium of refractive index 1.0003 is left as an exercise for the reader. For the advanced student derivation of the wavelength dependent refractive index of air should provide an interesting challenge.

For the rest of us, the colour doesn't matter - pointy is faster.

It's BLACK so Black is the fastest powered colour

(No counting re-entry shuttle or capsule as that's a falling brick)

Sorry brown is

The heavy duty dose of adrenaline before it all goes wrong is testament to that.
Or the world's hottest curry...

Now your clothing at that present moment is the fastest colour

Was that a precursor to the SR-71 Blackbird?? Shame there aren't any more of them flying. I was at an air show where one did a low pass on full afterburner - incredible.

BTW, the orbital speed of the ISS is about 4.75 miles per second, or 17000mph. So the fastest colour is white.
