Default Clutch Cover O-Ring problem/question

Hiya,

just doing a service on the bike and noted that it has the old weeping clutch cover problem so have whipped it off to clean, add a bit of silicone and pop it back on again. trouble is the o-ring doesn't seem to fit any more. I took it off really carefully but I guess it must have stretched. Any ideas or is it a new seal needed?

PS - looking at the cover and bolts I'd say it was a replacement one from the original one.

That looks exactly like mine did a month or so ago.

I just cut the ring, superglued the ends, and used plenty of silicone on both sides of the ring, particularly at the splice.

Yup that works fine. You can even buy sealing cord to make your own O rings in exactly this way.

Use grease on o-ring and slowly put it back in grove. It is normal to see them that way, they look bigger than circle. While there check your cover if flat. warped covers are what causes leak in most cases. It is plastic and ears where bolts go warp to the point o-ring is not pressed hard against engine.
