I used Optiglanz to great success, well until a sudden gust of wind caused me to breath in a lungful! They warn users not to breath it in and they are not wrong. Great cleaner, but it tastes and smells vile...

optiglanz is what is what they use for 'acid tank clean' on automated production lines for stainless steel, you need to buy 100's of ltr of it. you can however get a whole host of 'pickling paste' substances for low run production that is applied by hand, only problem with these is that they give a dull finish.

down at the workshop there is a hand held ultrasonic picking machine that makes very very short work of the job

Other than that a wire brush on a drill and Autosol, its stainless steel, not chrome, so wire brush brings it up quick

dont what ever you do use a steel wire brush on stainless steel you must use a stainless steel wire brush, using a steel brush puts ferrous onto the surface which turns into rust which eats at the SS.

When i got my bike, the exhaust was powder coated black, if you look at the picture you can see the colour of the rear pipes i couldn't get to till i took it out today. Harpic Max 10 the same one in the picture is the best cleaner ive used. as soon as you put it on you can see the reaction happening instantly.

I want to do it in situ and don't want to spray a powerful acid onto the rest of the bike so Harpic applied with a brush is looking likely at this moment.

The fairing lowers are going to be back with me this week so I will be doing the job in the next few days.

Scouring pads seem to do the trick for tough parts, thats what i used with harpic to remove black paint, but just the green part of a sponge should bring it up, and then a lot of autosol when they are clean

The other guarantee with Optiglanz is that it WILL remove the paint from your engine cases if the slightest amount gets on them!

From the Street Triple Forum:
Fry Powerflow Flux. £6.19 from Screwfix
Method: acquire wife's toothbrush. Run engine until pipes really hot.
Apply flux with brush. Wipe mess off with damp cloth.
Rejoice at sight of clean pipes - as quick and easy as that!
ps: don't forget to clean & return toothbrush.

Many active solder fluxes have hydrochloric acid in them, the same acid that harpic contains.
