How fiddly is doing this with the fairings on? I don't mind fiddly, I just like to know how many hours I'll spend swearing at myself and the bike!!!
Yup I'm pretty incompetent so it took me 15-20 minutes but that was including taking photos. And also yes watch your finger on the spring, the little blighter cost me some blood!

I'll report back on these bulbs this week (with the ultimate test, a night twisty run).

I tend to feel disappointed if I don't come away from working on the bike without a cut or scrape.

I thought it was just part of the package, along with swearing!

So on the way home I did a bit of a creek crossing and I dented my front rim

As for the lights, the low beam seems ok but I'm not sure if they're much better than stock The high beam is almost exactly the same as lowbeam?! Will give it a few weeks then order the phillips proper ones.

From experience i would not choose anything other than HID bulbs....Granted i payed around ?200 for a really good quality pair but they last forever and the lighting difference is simply remarkable.
You've all seen Rangerover sport and Mercs with blinding lights right.. they are, power and quality wise, as good as that. only difference is cars have bigger area coverage and bigger clusters

the phillips or osram nightbreakers are a noticable imporvement, unfortunately bulbs seem to be one of the things where you do actually get what you pay for...

One thing to note on this thread re. standard H4 bulbs...

'White' headlights make the rider to be seen easier by other road users - but YELLOW (of the correct temperature rating) light up the road better and enable the rider to see better.

The Osram Nightbreaker colour temperature is measured at 2,500 to 3,000 Kelvin. Very bright white lights are 4,000 Kelvin or higher, and blue above 5,000... but they are not so good at lighting up the road ahead in terms of improved visibility to the human eye.
I upgraded my SK1 (twin headlight) bulbs from the pretty awful standard 45/45W (dipped/main beam) units a few years back to osram Nightbreakers (60/55W). The improvement was immense.. and I can now actually see when riding in the dark!

Indeed! But the forum is a great resource for newbies and non-members, so up-to-date info is always helpful...
