Default SV650X is released for 2018

Suzuki have decided to put the SV650X into production. I do like the colour scheme - I found the current AL7's paint schemes to be boring.

Preload adjustable forks is the major change from the L7 and the nekkid gets that next year too.

Meanwhile the new Yamaha MT07 gets rear rebound damping adjustment.

One day Suzuki will wake up, we don't all want budget bikes.
More ponies, decent suspension and brakes. I like vtwin engine characteristics, but I also want more refinement in my ride.

And never will I ever buy a cheap steel lattice framed bike.

I know it is all personal taste but steel has the same strength to weight ratio as aluminium and triangulated steel frames can be every bit as rigid and light as alloy beam frames so why not a steel lattice?

Price is very important for a lot of people buying a bike, for Suzuki to Bring in the AL7 at less than £5.5K (gone up a bit now for various reasons) with Euro 4 compliance and ABS is pretty remarkable feat. The steel trellis kinda blends into the bike, unlike the earlier aluminium one.

There are plenty of more expensive bikes out there with more ponies and more refinement, but there is a market for 'budget' bikes as you scathingly call them, some people would call them good value for money, not budget.

Here is quote from Bennetts road test of 2016 AL7

It's essentially a new bike, even if some of the components like the basic chassis are shared with the Gladius. Okay, so it might not look as cool as the Yamaha MT-07 (in my opinion), but, what you may have forgotten about the SV650 is that they handle. Sublimely. So well that soon after leaving the hotel in Lloret de Mar on the Spanish coast, we hit one of Europe’s finest roads – the road from Lloret de Mar to Tosa de Mar - a fact that won’t have escaped Suzuki’s test riders and engineers who were obviously confident in the SV’s sporting ability.
It’s a road that would tie many bikes in this class in knots, and as good as the Yamaha MT-07 is, the Suzuki definitely would have the advantage in the handling stakes. The Suzuki feels alive, the Yamaha always feels underdamped.

One does wonder what they are trying to say here. However, I prefer my Pointy.

I paid £4995 for my brand new 17 plate AL7 in red.
Probably the best value for money bike I've ever had, and possibly the best overall bike I've ever had, but need to have it a couple more years before it can claim that title.
The price was a major part of why I chose it.
It was cheaper than a parallel (yuck) twin 500cc 47hp made in Thailand Honda.

Have a Google of Cagiva Raptor photos around 2007, they used SV engine in a good looking bike with lattice frame, better looking frame than SV, but then it cost more.

I don't like this modern fashion for big fat exhausts. It seems like all the Major motorcycle makers only have one design engineer as they all seem to be using them?

I love the simpler lines of my old-ish 1999 curvy
