SV650 Curvy no spark
Hi all
Bought a curvy none runner the other night. Started to fix it, no spark, swapped the whole loom (and sublooms) out as they had been butchered by the previous owner looking the fault, still faulty and swapped the cdi with a known good one, still no spark. Checked that the main wiring (i.e. not plugged in the carb heater circuit) all plugged in. Bike is turning over and fuses checked, petrol smell.......Anyone know of any gotcha's that could cause the no spark situation? |

only 0.9v on the orange/ red wire the rest are ok

Are you sure about the orange / red wire, according to the wiring diagram it shorts with the black/ white earth wire in the ignition switch on ignition on?

Just measured the pulse coil resistance thats ok at 189 ohms

I took the ignitor off my race/ track SV which is working

Just measured 98 ohms and I also put my spare ignitor back on the track bike and that fired up fine.........hmmmm, interesting one this

Ok voltage measured and it was the same on the track bike
Earth on the CDI was measured as short to ground. CDI from the road bike works on the track bike so CDI ok. measured the wires to the pulse coil plug from CDI and they both read short. When cranking over the voltage drops on each side of the pulse coil connections and restores when cranking stops |

Check all the voltages on the CDI comparing to my track bike and they were the same which meant I had to take the side casing off the flywheel side to investigate further.
Found one of the magnets had come off and was killing the spark, removed that and fired it up..... Success!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now need to find a gasket and a cheap flywheel. |
