First ride out today on bike since I can't remember. Started at a slight touch of the button, but it has been on Optimate in garage. Not many bikes about, I was only bike at cafe but nice to sit out in sun with a coffee. Simple pleasures !

Jealous of people getting out on bikes. The weather was amazing today.

Lol. Yep been there and got the t shirt. I sometimes think there are two people living in my head, Mr conscious and Mr sub conscious. Occasionally Mr sub takes over and does bizarre things such as putting keys in odd places etc.

I think it's a bit of an anachronism from the days of paper discs, the theory was that a disc with an expiry date more than 12months ahead could probably get overlooked so you could gain some free time. With digital online records only I can't really see what difference it makes, there's no piece of paper so the computer says either yes or no, whether you tax it a week or more in advance is of no significance really. I guess the powers-that-be will catch up in 10 years or so, can't rush these things.

I did find a section on the DVLA site describing how you can tax a vehicle in advance if you are away on holiday for example, but they require the V5C to be sent in with a letter and application. What? If you are abroad you need your V5C with you by law. If you're still in the UK what is stopping you taxing it at the right time, it's all online. If you still work with paper and Post Offices then serves you right! I'm sure someone thought it was a good idea.
Taxed the bike today. I was given the choice of start dates, March 1st or April 1st. Guess what I chose. Not seen that option before but then I usually tax in early March but at least it confirms the two day rule.

Could it be because they do an online insurance check? You can't get tax without insurance, and they don't know if you'll have insurance in a month's time.

This relates to earlier in this thread about how early you could apply for road tax. Prices go up on April 1st so it makes sense to try and tax before that but you can only do that two days in advance.
There was a message about checking for a valid MOT before I could proceed, insurance wasn't mentioned but I'm sure that gets checked too.

First ride out for me too, well, yesterday actually but its taken me a day to defrost myself despite wearing several thin and thermal layers... My Optimate is clearly lying as Hugh started straight up after five months hibernation despite the "Weak" light showing.

Decided not to stop on my run and just blow out the cobwebs on a circular route but others had a different idea, as H Caff carpark was packed with bikes ignoring the rule of six and it seems any social distancing. There were two bike cops there too, one with a radar gun and the other waiting by the roundabout to pounce.

I went for a spin on Tuesday, bedding in the new Pirelli Angels. Felt good to be back on two wheels!

A nice 200 miles out on the bike today. Certainly feeling much more used to being on the bike again after time off it.
