Default 'Untraced Driver Claims' and 'Mobile Camera'

A e-mail I get from White Dalton has told me of these Legal Updates.

Untraced driver claims

Previously you had to report an accident involving an untraced driver to the police within 14 days and pursue a claim within 3 years of the accident, otherwise it would be rejected. Following a recent High Court ruling it is now possible to pursue claims outside of these periods.

If either you or someone you know was involved in an accident involving an untraced driver and wishes to bring a claim then please call us on (White Dalton) 0800 783 6191.

Mobile cameras

As a result of recent changes the police are no longer to receive the revenue from mobile speed cameras. They are therefore exempt from the requirements to publicise them. The first police force to follow this is Cumbria, but others are likely to follow suit. You cannot rely on a Road Angel or other similar device to provide you with accurate and up-to-date information on camera locations.

How did they sneak that one in? Surely the whole point of publicising them was to forewarn people of accident blackspots and avoid accidents, why does that change just because the money is going elsewhere?

North Wales did this many many months back (a couple of weeks before the North Wales run that some of us had). Supprise supprise.

The muppets in charge went a step further and said that if they don't have to annouce camera locations, they're going to consider slapping up signs for "hidden speed cameras" and put cameras in cats-eye's.

The rules are that if you get the funding, you have to make them visible and public, which is a sensible rule as it helps to avoid profiteering. Helps, I said

That sucks!...meaning the money is going directly to the exchequer - Does that mean that the local authorities do not have to keep them maintained because they certainly wont be doing it for free! I am probably hoping too much here but I wonder if damaged gatso's and their electronic associates will get replaced if their revenue doesnt meet targets - I think the motorway and major A road versions will continue to be maintained, but those on smaller roads might not!

I wonder too if the councils will continue to receive monies from Bus Lane cameras (which in Hillingdon are rotated to face other potential revenue clinchers when outside their 'trading' times!)
