does the one you have still do what you want it to do?

shiny shiny is not always best. you also have the added hassle of installing all your configured software again at which point you find out that you have to buy it all again.

That's the problem. It's now struggling for photo processing. Lots of 'photoshop is not responding ' messages. It's an early Core i3 processor and has only 4gB of ddr2 ram. The HD was swapped for an SSD a few years ago that breathed fresh life into the system. There are other issues too.

I'm not one for spending money for the sake of it and I'm becoming a bit of a tight **** in my old age.

i guess that your working with larger file sizes and doing more manipulation with filters and stuff?

i would hazard a guess that there is stuff in the startup that needs turned off. pretty much everything apart from antivirus and driver interfaces can be turned off. you can also turn off "call back" driver updater's etc.etc.

your system more than likely needs a good old gut out of redundant files.

if your machine was sprightly before and your doing the exact same things then its just need a good old spring clean.

what OS are you using?

i'm also a tight git and still on an amd fx 4200 and see no need to change.

It's a pretty bare bones win 10 system. I did a clean rebuild when I installed the SSD about 5 years back. There are hardly any apps installed and it runs fine for web browsing, email etc. It's only slow for CPU intensive work as Task Manager shows. There's very little in startup and I use Windows defender for virus protection. Bootup is nice and quick.

a nice shiny should see you faster then

tip: spend most of the money on the graphics card. always get the higher processor speed than cores. if you can get say a 6 core instead of an 8 core but the 6 core is 4Ghz than an 8 core 3Ghz.

if you can splash the cash get an M.2 ssd for your OS but dont get an SATA type. the OS HDD is always the bottleneck so the faster you can make this the faster the overall speed of things loading.
