Police take a very dim view at you crossing double white lines.

I just love the comments at the end;

He told the court that it was a misjudgement, that he was now selling his bike and that he regretted his actions. "I've just had a young son and it has put everything into perspective."

Doesn't it always seem that defendants, or more likely their legal rep. come up with some dross of a story, I regret, I'm sorry, I was drunk, I've never done anything like that before, think of my children etc etc etc.
I don't want to hear it to be honest. It strikes me as if they are trying to shift blame away from their actions or diminish the impact of their crime. (not saying this lad in particular, just in general)

I see it as people not being willling or able to accept absolute responsibility for their own actions.

Oh, it wasn't me in the story, I obviously never go so fast, unless it's downhill with a following wind and I'm in a rush to get back to the children................

But it's not a defence, it's an excuse.

Silly boy. I've done silly things before though and had I been caught I think I would have just said: "You got me BluePete, please can you loosen the cuffs and not hit me with that large ooooooOWOWW!"

But that's me.

Not a defence, an excuse. Anything better than nothing and considering the number of speeding let-offs by the boys in blue in Essex seem to get according to Home Office statistics all's fair in love and war.I would like to add that having been on a couple of SV RIDEOUTS I have yet to come across the rider who doesn't exceed the speed limits at some point or another.I will agree with the double white line issue but as far as the speed is concerned who can honestly hold up their hand and say they never ever speed.
As far as the speeding is concerned he should have had better observation,then perhaps he would have seen the police car.
