Lower Fairing J-Mount Bracket Thing & Fairing Repair
Anybody know where to buy them from? Let's just say I had a low speed high side and the J-mount on the left size bent/snapped. My left lower fairing is also ruined but luckily it's repairable. About 70% of it snapped cleanly and horizontally about on the same "line" as where the hole for the J-Mount is positioned. What sort of DIY repair kits should I be looking at and how much would a glass black respray cost me?
Thanks in advance! |

Re: Lower Fairing J-Mount Bracket Thing & Fairing Repair
The guy who is repairing my broken fairing says the rear lower mount would be an unreliable repair so I had to buy new lowers. For only one panel and nice easy black, expect £100 - £150.

I straightened mine out and this left a large v shaped crack which I got a local welder ( from Gumtree I think ) to fill for me. Cost me £40 ( yes I was probably overcharged) but I could not find a supply of the OEM part. Good luck.

That doesn't look anything like the lower fairing brackets on either of my SVs, assuming we're talking about the brackets that hold the lower fairings. Mine just have simple brackets that could be folded from flat steel, the only awkward bit would be the threaded inserts.

Re: Lower Fairing J-Mount Bracket Thing & Fairing Repair
Appreciate the replies! https://www.google.com/search?q=sv65...3tOT89c4GrXAM: are the mounts that I'm talking about.
I think that I'll also go down the welding route as UK stock doesn't seem to be available. Crash bungs will only make things worse if I was to drop my bike again... I guess I'll just have to live with the fact that this will happen again. |

Interesting, neither of my bikes had anything like that. The new one (2013) has nothing except the bracket on the radiator and the one at the bottom below the engine. No holes for any other mountings. The old bike (2006) had R&G crash bobbins so don't know what it had originally.

Re: Lower Fairing J-Mount Bracket Thing & Fairing Repair
Those brackets you have linked SixFiddy, I refer to as the banana bracket. They are **** - ie offer no strength factor at all. Simply to hold the fairing in place.
aesmith these are what your R&G replaced. I can speak from experience about the banana bracket being made of well banana's. I had to lay my bike down whilst doing zero miles an hour. Whist I pulling out of a junction turning right the bike died as I was leaning into the turn. Alas I was wrong footed and just managed to get my foot down. I was well past the tipping point, and as my back was about to cave in I had to gently lower the bike the remaining inches to the floor. The bracket was toast. Useless piece of ****. So I replaced it with an R&G set. Having since had the bike fall over at least twice I can say the R&G bracket is brilliant. |

Re: Lower Fairing J-Mount Bracket Thing & Fairing Repair
Does anyone have diagram/pics of how the mounts in 'stilo's' response are put together. This is just in case i drop mine and my current 'J' aka 'banana' bracket fails/bends. Many thanks

No idea what they are for, not your lower fairing. I'm sure someone - if you're lucky Lance will be along to tell you what they are.
