Default Oil pressure light sk5

Hi me yet again with another fault....... searched for stuff on this cant believe i'm the first to have oil pressure probs but cant find nuffin....

right was on way home from asda 7 miles away and oil light came on while stood at lights at tick over..... never done this before unless i've had tickover way down and bike stalled.

on the 7 mile trip home the light started to come on higher up the rev range till a got home and now it only goes out over 4k....

tomorrow i'm gonna do an oil change as normaly change oil every 1k-1.5k and not 100% sure when i last did it

now the brain picking bit

1 how easy is it to check the oil pressure

2 can the pressure sender go boobs up and is there any way to check them

3 if the pumps stuffed how easy a job is it to change fix

4 any good bike shops in northeast anyone can recomend that wont ream me a new you know what

thanx in advance for any help....

Hopefully it will turn out to be a fault with the oil pressure switch causing the light to come on.If not you have probably destroyed your engine by riding it like that.

You didn't say if you'd checked your oil level?

It's bloody risky to use it like that. You could get another pressure sensor and swap it out to see if that does it. If not the engine has a problem obviously. You'd have to be mental to use your bike for even 10 seconds until you've done this.

That's something then. You're right in saying oil pressure problems are super rare, not surprised a search turned nothing up. Most oil pumps are basically a cog turning in a housing, not much to go wrong as long as nothing gets blocked or leaks and it sounds like you look after your machine. I'll lay serious odds it's the sensor but wouldn't use it again till I knew it for sure. Is it easily accessible on an SV (I not got one)?
