Default SV650 Low Idle Problem.

Hello!

Just asking for a bit of advice/knowledge really. I'm not good at all with mechanics of my bike but i was cruising down the motorway yesterday and was braking on a slip road when all of a sudden the bike felt really unresponsive.

I stopped and noticed it had started idling at 1000 which is way too low. I hadn't touched anything. The bike was then reallly bumpy to take off and felt as if it was going to stall. It then got a surge of power and was again really bumpy.

So i pushed it home. Great fun. Luckily only 3 miles out of the 75 i had done.

It happened once before but was when i was torrentially raining. I came back to it in the morning and it was fine. (it was raining this time aswell)

Ive come back to it this morning and its exactly the same. Ive taken a video to help with the diagnostics.

Is it going to be something major?

Thanks in advance

Josh

you haven't tried adjusting the idle

but don't think that would make it bumpy though but worth a try, maybe sparkplugs if they haven't been changed in a while check the gap on them.

Raining------Favourite will be water getting to the front plug. This causes misfiring then the front cylinder cuts out, then it sometimes cuts back in again causing surging and unpredictable power. The cure is to get the plug out and dry it or replace it,then ensure the small drain hole that comes out at the side of the cylinder head is clear. Then you need to put it back together with some waterproofing (grease vaseline or similar)around the rubber grommet that holds the plug HT lead into the cylinder head.A fender extenda on the front mudguard also helps deflect water away.
