Default Helmet and Leathers cover?

Helmet and Leathers cover?

I'm up for renewal. Currently with Hastings direct (cheapest)

They have re-quoted me £108 inc helmet and leathers.

One concern I have is that if i came to damage drop or have a minor incident that meant i needed to claim for my gear this would also have an overall impact on my yearly premium.

A few questions:
- Is it best to get separate leathers cover that has nothing to do with my actual bike insurance, thus keeping any claims for either or separate?

- What are your thoughts and how do others do this?

- How do people rate Hastings direct and also Bennetts (next cheapest)

May be best checking with Hastings about whether a claim on your kit will affect your premium, it may well be like windscreen insurance on cars which isn't take into account normally if you need to claim.

I've been with Hastings for quite a while, the only thing I have bad to say about them is that their "admin" fee is rather steep at £35 odd quid, so don't go making any mid term changes.

Fortunately I haven't had to make a claim, so unfortunately I can't comment on what they're like if you need to

Yep I had to move address which incurred a charge so well aware of that one!

I believe if you sign up to the Hastings premium you no longer get the charge depends on if you KNOW you will be making a change or not.

When I spoke to Hastings last year about the Helmet and leather cover they told me ANY claim on the policy would have a potential impact on my overall premium. It would be classified as a non fault incident a believe. This is what made me question is there a better way of doing it.

That sounds to me like they'll take no claims off you then. Might be worth seeing if there are companies who will insure just your kit separately

problem i have with H&L cover is £1000 wont cover the cost of my gear i would need twice and a bit more.

you are better taking it out with a separate company if your insurer is going to class it towards no claims.

if its a third party fault then the third party should pay out for your gear.

Check the small print as every H&L policy I have had said the claim is only in the event of an accident, so you'd be claiming off your insurance anyway.

Unless you bin it on your own and decide to fix the the bike yourself, in which case replace your gear yourself

Don't like Hastings. They don't allow you to buy back your bike if they write it off.

Don't like Bennetts. They voided my policy over a mistake in the accident declarations. My fault of course but thought it was a very harsh way to deal with it. My premiums are now huge and most places won't insure me. I make sure Bennetts don't see a penny.

I'd add them to your household policy if I were you?
