Default SV650 Curvy harness diagram

Hi

I am having some problems with the wiring for the front brake lever and brake light. Does anyone have the curvy wiring diagram I can use to help fault trace?

Thanks,

You can get the full service manual by searching Google for "sv650 service manual"

Wiring schematics are around page 450

Thanks,
in colour! The medium linked image was a bit small, unfortunately this is the next size up...If you want to see the whole image on your screen then control and - (minus key) will shrink it with each press, control and 0 (zero) will restore it in Firefox or Chrome.

Hi

Thanks for the help.

So the front brake lights work on switching the earth as opposed to live feed to the light?

As I have power to the switch, if I were to run a new earth wire from the switch to where it joins the plug with the rear brake switch I should be okay?

Thanks

Brake light switch is powered directly from fuse 4.

Front and rear switches are in parallel, if the rear one is ok you have a break near the front (the W/B wire in the main harness).
So yes running a new wire from the switched side of the front switch to the switch side of the rear switch will work (although this is a 12v feed not an earth).

Hi

I think I may be confused. Is the White and Black wire the live or earth? I have two black and white going to the brake light cluster socket, and one brown.

Black with white stripe is ground / earth / negative common ( take your pick ) if you look it is common to both filaments of the stop / tail 21/5W bulb. The two black / white wires going to light cluster should be black with white stripe and white with black stripe. Brown is 5W sidelight feed and white with black stripe is 21Watt filament brake light. ( the 'stripe' colour is the one there is less of on the cable )

What he said. B/W is mainly black with a white stripe 0v. W/B mainly white with a black stripe is your switched 12v brake light feed.

It should be obvious which one is which. Only Mr Suzuki knows why he didn't use different colours

If your original problem is that the brake light isn't operating with the front brake switch, the most likely cause is the switch contacts are dirty. This is a quite common issue, they tend to suffer some slight arcing when make/break is experienced.
While the switches aren't intended to be serviceable, you can usually get them apart, often needing to pare off the plastic rivet heads and then carefully prising the halves apart. Clean the contacts, reassemble and refit, the fixings will hold them together. My SV and Deauville have both had this done.
The easy alternative is buy a new switch, generic ones are around a fiver.

If your problem is something else, please ignore this post.

Hi all

Thanks for your help. Doing the testing I did and even shorting out the plug did not make the light illuminate, but thought I would try replacing the switch just in case.

On removing the switch I found the plunger was stuck, new switch resolved the problem.

Doh.

Thanks all for your help!
