Default Coming back to the SV fold

As one or two of you know I (re)started my biking on an SV650 about 4 years ago.

I got a bit cocky on that lovely bike and bought a Bandit 1200. That was a great bike in many ways, but a bit of a big and heavy beast. Then I had a day on a borrowed GSXR600 and fell for the itsy bitsy little rocket so bought by own GSXR 750. Great fun for a while, fast and nippy. But I always had my doubts about me really being a Sportsbike rider.

Then last saturday I went on a track day on the GSXR. Now I know that to many people this is what pocket rockets are made for and it's the chance to show that bike and the friends watching, what you are made of.

Well I found out that I'm not made of the stuff that speed freak, knee down, rocket riders are. I went quite fast and I learned to ride fast smoothly. But I really didn't like it that much. I don't see the point of 140+ mph.

So I went to the local bike shop yesterday to see what bike was really me. Test rode the K5 SV650.

All I can say is I was grinning from the moment I left the shop until I switched off the engine on returning. I'd forgotten how much fun these bikes are. I felt that it was a bit slow on the bypass, but then I checked the speedo and it was nearly into three figures! And my confidence at chucking it round the bends was huge. And this was with it all standard (boy, is that can quiet).

Soon as finances and a trip to Ireland allow I'm getting an SV650! Can't wait.

ps - that seat is still as uncomfortable as an ironing board tho. Might be the first mod

So you're coming from a gixxer to an SV...................(pinches himself).

To be honest you will probably enjoy the SV much much more than any bike if you are afraid of it. Plus the SV is a very forgiving bike so you will be able to 'ride' it more and use it's power. Make sure you get a fenda extenda just in case you get caught in the wet and get rid of that huge lardy standard can and you will lvoe it to peices. Oh and a gel seat will help with the comfort I've heard.

Hope you find a nice one.

Dan

Don't dismiss the SV1000 naked, you can pick them up for a song and they're better in every way. At least try one if you have the chance (if only for the superior brakes and suspension) .

SV Dan - I call the SV 'well behaved' rather then 'forgiving'. But you're right, in that I felt that the GSXR could be unpredictable on me. That was my feeling rather then the actual behaviour of the bike.

Jonboy - nekkid is a no-no for me. The Bandit showed me that the the neck and arm muscles of a boxer are needed at anything above 85mph and that's not a look I'm striving for. And it just seems to me that the SV1000S is just a bit too...well, middle aged. Just not a hint of potential hoologan about it really.

Fiar play to you Messie The most important thing is that you should enjoy your riding and be able to feel confident on your bike.

I would have thought you'd get a good deal part exing your GSXR it looked in pretty good nick at AR06.

Stu369 - actually you're the second one, but the 1st one I may take seriously (no Ape I don't want it back!)

I want a black SV650S K5. I would buy a new bike but apparently black is 'last years' colour!

The shop have offered my £3200 for my GSXR against a new bike. Don't really know if that's good or not.

Oh I need to sell the Bandit as well!

Good choice

I want a new Gixxer 750 but I won't get one cos a) I can't afford one and b) I'd probably kill myself on one.

Just a thought the K6 SVS thousand comes in black it looks exactly the same as the K5 SV650S except.

You have bit more power.
It has better brakes.
It has better front forks.

I havent ridden one but it sounds like it might be just what you're looking for if you want to buy a new bike rather than a 2nd hand one ?
