I was in the middle lane of the motorway waiting for a gap in the outside lane so I could overtake the vehicle in front of me. A van went past with space behind so I slipped into the outside lane behind the van. The van was accelerating away and I overtook the car. I checked my mirror for the car I had just overtook, could not see it so check over my shoulder. I confirmed I had passed the car safely so looked forward in preparation to move back into the middle lane. I had about a tenth of a second before I rode straight into the back of the van which had previously overtaken me. At some time between me checking my mirror and my rear observation, the flow of traffic in outside lane reduced speed quickly. I did not have time to react. I personally think it is just a case of serious bad luck that I chose the exact time to make my rear observation as the line of traffic quickly slowed. I was riding faster than the middle line of traffic but slower than the outside line of traffic. Not sure exactly of the speed but it would have been somewhere between the 60 and 70 MPH range. I am also not sure how fast the van was going when I hit it, but estimate it was lower than 30 MPH. I somersaulted and then rolled a few times. I stayed in the same lane as did the bike. The bike did not hit anything else and neither did I. I have bruises and grazes and my previously broken hip hurts like hell. I ache all over but have not broken any bones. Don't really think there is much more to say. Apart from the fact I was wearing all my gear which almost definitely saved me from any serious damage. I was wearing textiles. The trousers took quite a bit of abuse and as is normal with textiles, the knee armour moves around rather too easily. As a consequence of that I have road rash on one knee. The jacket faired better and that combined with my back protector left me mostly unscathed. I have a stiff neck which considering the impact is hardly surprising. Stiff as hell this morning so with the aid of pain killers intend on staying mobile so I don't seize up.
