Steering issues
Hello again guys, another problem with my curvy has arose lately...
Ive noticed the past few weeks that, particularly at slow speeds whilst cornering, my steering seems to be a bit too light for my liking and seems as if the bike almost wants to fall off the edge of the earth unexpectedly. So, i removed the top yoke and took a look at the headstock bearings which seem to be okay at the top and applied some more grease in there to keep everything moving freely and put everything back together and reasonably tight enough (bearing collar). I havent had the time to check the bottom bearings and the front tyre seems to be okay with no signs of uneven wear. I also recently changed the fork oil and seals and all seems to be working fine with no leaks. If you stand the bike up and move the bars from side to side there is a slight notch in the middle almost as if the headstock is trying to self centre itself, which is also noticeable whilst riding at slow speeds (steering feels heavy and unbalanced). What are your thoughts??? Cheers guys and ride safe! |

Re: Steering issues
The notch in the middle is a sign of wear and will most likely be the cause of your steering issue.

Re: Steering issues
Change the steering head bearings, they're knackered by the sound of it.

Re: Steering issues
Deffo. Be careful adjusting the tension in the new ones, too little obviously leads to knocking, too much means it's wobble at low speed (e.g. walking speed) as the bars can't move freely enough. You'll need to check the forks are aligned at the end of course.
