OUCH! And other 4 letter words! (image intensive)
I went for a ride this afternoon and ended up dropping my bike!
My usual ride (when I'm not going anywhere in particular) is Long Hill (Buxton). It's a nice twisty road and is usually pretty quiet during late afternoon and evening on a weekday. I usually ride from Whaley Bridge, to Buxton and back again, then turn around and do it again. Well today, I did that and when I got back to Whaley Bridge for the second time, I looked at the time and thougt "I've got time for one more run" BIG MISTAKE!!!! I set off and about 1/3 of the way along, came across a bike and a car dawdling (about 40ish). I passed them on a decent straight approaching a left hand bend. I hit the corner and must have misjudged it slightly, I came in a little fast (about 40 or so) and wide. Leant the bike in a little more, and ....................... bye bye back end. I had a new rear tyre fitted yesterday and all I can assume is that I found a patch on the edge of the tyre which I hadn't properly scrubbed in yesterday. I slid accross the apex of the bend and made contact with the barrier on the other side. Now for the important bit: I'M FINE! Just a slightly bruised behind, a slightly grazed elbow (from the armour in my jacket) and a very bruised ego!. The bike's Okay, but needs a new mirror glass, R&G Crash bung (which saved considerable damage to both the bike and my leg), LHS pillion footpeg. It's got a couple of cracks in the fairing and I need to straighten my gear lever. All things considered, I came off well. I was glad I was wearing the proper gear. Palm of glove Knee of my leather trousers I usually wear textile trousers and this was the first time I had worn the leathers (glad I did too). And when I got home, I noticed that the seat of the leathers hade done it's job too. Plus the elbow armour in my jacket did it's job too (no scuff marks, but a sore elbow, so I know it got used) I need to have it fixed next week as I'm off to the TT the week after. Blimey, glad your ok!! And bikes not too bad considering. Takes 100miles they say to scrub the tyres in, but i suppose it depends on the riding you do in that 100miles, no good scrubing them in on the motorway is it !!

I know. That's why after having th tyre fitted yesterday, I went on a long ride (all sorts of roads). I probably covered about 70 miles, plus about 20 today before this happened.

You were lucky wearing your leathers! Did your leg got trapped under the bike? Well, get it fixed soon and when you are back from TT we will eventually go for a ride.

Bu*ger . Glad to hear you are okay.
Speaking of leathers/textiles, I've been thinking lately about totally getting away from textiles. They are very convenient but I really just don't trust them that much. Ben |
