Once the fork is compressed a little the small spring, the one that stops the forks extending and hitting the fully extended limit with a bump, is free to slide up and down. Is that it?

Oh right, I hope so, the spring, oil, washer and spacer is out and it doesn’t make any noise. It’s when I bottom the fork out and tip it upside down something slides. Is that the little spring? I have a garage taking the seized screw out tomorrow so I can get it sprayed and back together Friday if it’s normal

There's a smaller spring around the rebound damper rod... to stop forks bottoming out as mentioned above..

Got the bolt drilled out and re tapped. Sanding the forks now. Will turn some spacers tomorrow
