SV325 V-single :/
I keep losing a cylinder on my k5 :/
Started happening on Saturday morning, infrequently, and now it's happening alot. Comes out of no where, and goes just as quickly so I'm thinking electrical - also has kicked up the error code C24 (Ignition signal #1) so have cleaned the contacts on the coil pack and checked internal resistance, which is fine (3.5ohms). Does this sound like my coil pack is on the way out? Are the coil packs known for being a bit crap? Bike has done 34k and afaik is on it's original coils. Plugs were changed 500 miles ago. Any other suggestions on things to check? |

Re: SV650 V-single :/
Wet front spark plug, water getting in via the plug cap.
Spray plug with WD40, little bit of vasaline under the rubber grommet at the top of the plug cap and get a Fenda extenda

Re: SV650 V-single :/
Well it's always the same fault code, other than that there is no way to tell is there?
Interesting suggestion, have you seen this before? When the problem developed I hadn't had the bike out in the wet for a few days and it rode fine for 40 miles before it started to go wrong... |

Probably the most common cause of single cylinder Sv problems, curvy or pointy. Investigate this first, before thinking of other bigger problems

Re: SV650 V-single :/
I had this and had water in the plugs, take them out and WD40 until the drainage hole is clear .... PM Kwak he sorted mine.
Was running on 1 then it would kick in then would hesitate again, a slight popping sounds too ..... very common problem with the SV's. Sounds like same thing that Zuky did.

Re: SV650 V-single :/
Ok cool, when you say plugs I assume you mean the plugs on the end of the HT lead?
Where is the drainage hole? Thanks guys, Jynx |

Re: SV650 V-single :/
Mine is sat in the shed with the same problem, given me a good excuse to fit my Buell fairing. Start her up & lightly touch the downpipes, its an easy way to find out which cylinder isnt firing, will be coldish to the touch. If it is front cylinder, then pound to a penny it is water ingress

Re: SV650 V-single :/
The easiest way to prevent it from occuring is fitting a extender on the mudguard. But also sealing the top of the spark plug with some grease will help.

Rear cylinder doesn't suffer the same problem cos it's tucked away, nice and dry, so just do the front to start with. Its a bit of a pain to get to, but not impossible The drain hole is on the right hand side of the front cyclinder. Give it a blast with a garage airline to blow any muck out.
