Starting Issue curvy
My dad got a 51 pate curvy about 6 months ago, and was then made redundant so didnt sit his tests, the bike started and run fine, I also riden the bike once or twice a few days after him buying it.
Its now been sat for around 5 months. Today I went round with my working battery and conected it up. The bike is cranking but not starting eveything sounds normal just doesnt fire up. I thinking maybe the petrol has gone off and maybe topping up with some fresh would help ? Anyone else got any other suggestions. Regards Ant

Re: Starting Issue curvy
Ant its best to lift the tank and take the air box off.
Crack open the drain screws on the bottom of the carbs, pull the vac hose off the rear carb and suck on the hose. You should get fuel through the carbs. Nip up the bowl drains and give it a crank HTH

Re: Starting Issue curvy
Possibly worth taking the carbs off and giving them a clean as there may be some crud in them

Re: Starting Issue curvy
Ok finally got round to having another look at my dads bike today.
Took the carbs off and drained them and gave them a quick clean they appred to be fine, drained tank put fresh fuel in and it still doesn't start. I took out the rear spark plug and pressed the starter and held it near the engine casing and I don't see any spark. I have also noticed that the clutch switch has been bypassed at some point as I can turn it over without holding it in. Any more advice would be appreciated.

Re: Starting Issue curvy
May sound like a stupid question, but have you checked the killswitch?

Re: Starting Issue curvy
it wouldn't crank over if the kill switch was faulty

Re: Starting Issue curvy
I knew that... To be honest I've never tried to start my engine with the kill switch on. On my old bike it would turn over but not fire. Oh, and check your PMs for my lunch order.

Re: Starting Issue curvy
New battery ant. Also prime the carbs, pull the vac hose off the rear carb, slightly crack the carb bowl drains and suck on the hose
It'll make firing it easier. sent from a weapon of mass distraction

Re: Starting Issue curvy
It's got a new battery Andy.
Petrol is getting to the carbs as I've drained them twice now. Also I switched the plug for a known good one and still don't see a spark.

Re: Starting Issue curvy
If it's cranking but not starting you probably want to check:
Connection from the pickup to the ECU, ECU to coils. That'd be where I'd start. You have main power, and it's affecting both cylinders from the description so it's got to be fairly fundamental. All the safety cut outs should stop the starter spinning. Jambo
