Default Flippin' brakes!!

Did a service on my curvey this weekend and stripped the brakes as a matter of course. They were binding a bit and I wanted to check them anyway. I was dreading the sticky pin problem but they came apart no problem (phew) and the right caliper was fine. But, the left one was the binding one and.... A stone fell out as I took the caliper off and I found that the damn thing had got wedged above the pads and has wrecked the spring that nestles in the caliper body. Damn. I tried bending it back but the stone has actually scored it so badly it will not hold it's shape any more. The pads don't go back in properly now, almost certainly the cause of the binding, so I am off the road until I get a new one.

Anyone else had this? I've never seen it before myself, so am I just unlucky??

The brakes themselves are fine, in that the pistons move freely and are not a problem. It was the sring causing the grief here - it was mangled and holding the pads wrong.
