Windows 7
They're looking at replacing Vista with 'Windows 7' in "the next year or so"

Re: Windows 7
Wow, finally, a decent timeframe for an OS update. This will probably be out in about 2015 though...

'next year or so'
I very much doubt it. Look at how many years late Vista was. |

No more surprising than being told a car manufacturer is likely working on the details of a new car design. |

They're actually scoping a 3year development & rollout schedule. That puts first initial beta's at roughly 2011. The last I heard from an insider was that they were hoping to release enmass to public in 2015. FWIW, Windows 7 will be a modular OS, and customers will be offered the opportunity to 'rent' perticular modules for a finite time. Can't say I agree with that in principal, but then, they're a business, and it does make business sense. I do however like the look of the spec'd deployment platform they'll be using for it. Unfortunate that I know the security won't be up to what it could be, but what more can you expect from MS? |

Re: Windows 7
i have just upgraded my main machine and put vista 64 ultimate on it due to large ram requirements. i had read all the same articals that vista is slower and bloatyer etc etc etc.
but then i remembered there was the same fuss made over xp when that came out, things didnt work right old hardware didnt work, it was bigger etc etc etc.... now having been using vista at home now for a few weeks i couldnt live without it. the instant search features are amazing, its at liest as stable as xp if not more so. i also enjoy gaming and as a platform for gaming i can honestly notice no difference in performance from xp to vista on the same hardware. to get the to point there is nothing really wrong with vista, in the same way there is nothing really wrong with xp. there is no really good reason to upgrade but there also isnt really a good reason not to.... |
