Default Vintage film cameras

The Franka Super Frankarette arrived today. Been given a good clean. Wind on seems to lock sometimes, may cause loss of a frame before working again.

I was trying to think of a way of scanning 127 and 120 negatives with my Epson scanner. It isn't backlit so will need a lightsource to make the scan work. I tried it with an iPad but the light doesn't stay on long enough. I was thinking I could make a small diffused light box to place over the negative. Maybe with an LED light inside with tracing paper to diffuse the light inside a lunchbox or something. Any ideas?

We have a scanner at work that can do negatives, it's quite old but it has a separate light source. Newer ones like the Canoscan 9000 don't seem to though - not sure how that works - but from reviews it seems that they scan prints way better than negatives, so unless you pin a lot for a good negative scanner, the flatbed ones aren't so hot.

If you're into super-tight DoF then you should get yourself an f1.4 or thereabouts - there are some 50mm-ish ones for about £40 with M42 mount. Older but good e.g. Takumars, and the Super Takumars (whatever the difference is) are said to be amazing.

Think I have finally stopped mucking about with my Zeiss Contessa. I bagged a cheap non-rangefinder one with a good lens and swapped the rear element, and set the focus properly so it now works. The old lens was pretty hazy, I didn't really appreciate how much till I took it out and shone a torch through the remaining two, so pretty hopeful it all works well. I don't have a piece of ground glass to put in place of the film to check focus, and I'd rather do it at a short distance (I used 2m) as the DoF is small so you have to get it right, so I popped the focus screen out of my Pentax MX and taped it in place. I found the split circle worked (I was really just after a screen of any sort) and made it really easy to get the focus right. Am going to try it out with another roll of Poundland as the last one came out well. Can't get Stacy Solomon out of my head going "Paaahhhhhhnd".

Just pulled three images from a 50 odd year old Kodak 620 film found in the Brownie 620D. The backing had stuck to the film and the lab said it was beyond saving. Loaded it in the tank, batch of ID11 and developed for 9 mins. Once unloaded, I used a sink full of water to gently ease the paper backing off. Held over an iPad screen and super macro mode on my HS10 got a usable image to play with. Opened in Paint.net and inverted the image and auto balanced. Wondering who the people are and where the church was.
