Well, it does appear that it was as simple as the battery being the problem. I bought a maintenance charger yesterday and fully charged it (took 4 hours). Now it starts easily using the choke, so the choke etc must be fine. So does using the choke to start require more battery 'power' than a normal start? I'm a bit puzzled by that.
Anyway, hurrah for easy fixes. PS It seems I neglected to charge the battery when I bought it, the guy assured me it was ok to just pop it in the bike after going through the setup procedure putting in the acid into the cells etc, but I read later that this only gives it a 70% charge and you should properly charge it before using it in the bike. Not to mention I'm only doing short stop start trips on it at the moment so I guess the battery is slowly discharging. Last edited by Goodfella; 09-12-12 at 08:52 AM. |
