Honda VT500's were/are known to start easly and run well till you stop for petrol, then no go till cooled off. With them it's a coil problem. Might be worth borrowing a pair of coils.

Sounds like it needs a good general service e.g Plug check/Air filter/Battery terminal clean and check for security and also a common problem is neglected Choke plunger servicing,

Good point.I've also seen on other forums/links with Fuel pumps on the SVs causing problems when the bikes are left stood for long periods.

So it will only start when the engine is stone cold, and as soon as it warms up, it will not start again after you've switched the engine off until it is stone cold again?

Has to be a sensor fault of some kind. No FI light on the dashboard or a CHK symbol? Any connectors loose or unplugged under the fuel tank?

My niece had a similar problem on a Vauxhall Astra, would not start when warm - turned out to be a faulty engine temperature sensor.

It would start when stone cold but if I stopped it straight away or it stalled that was it until the next day (I have tried to start it over several hours to no avail and just flattened the battery if I persisted hence leaving it until the next day) Ureka I do believe I have solved the problem but it’s very noisy on the front cylinder but that is a new chapter... I managed to start the bike over the weekend and instead of turning it off with the help of a little throttle I kept it running until it would tick over then left it running until it reached full operating temp and the fan kicked in and during this period it literally steamed from under the tank ( not blown gasket type steam more wisps of drying out) and now it starts on the button every time albeit noisily, so many thanks for all your help with my problem.

(oh, and it's "Eureka" )
I've treated EVERY connector and bulb holder on my SV with Switch cleaner and then ACF50.Been using ACF50 for around 15 years now.Very rarely had any electrical problems since doing this with any of my bikes.I work in the Aircraft industry and it's been used for years on Aircraft
