Front Fork Oil Change
I need to do a shock oil change and would like a bit of advice please having not done one before.
1) Are there any particular pitfalls to watch out for? 2) What's the best way to the the front end up and clear of the ground. I have a padock stand for the rear cheers Tris |

Use your padock stand then use a car jack on the front.
I'd recomend changing the springs while you're at it also |

Using a block of wood works well with an NWS/ABBA stand, you might struggle lifting the front when its on padock stand. |

Oh, and when re-assembling, torque the fork top nuts up before you do the top clamps.

A note of warning.
The boss under the engine which is the obvious place to jack/block is quite near the centre of gravity of the bike, and so there isn't much weight on the back keeping it stable on the paddock stand. I did mine like this in a garage, put ropes round the handlebars up to the roof so it couldn't drop, and also put a bag of sand (with cloth to protect paintwork) on the pillion seat to make sure it stayed on the rear paddock stand. |
