If so, it's perfectly safe, will need to be built back up with a bit of weld, which isn't bank-breakingly pricey. Of course, it could be more than that, but I'd say it's a good bet. |

Re: Headstocks damaged
Cheers wrc, it is the lock stop-but how come theyve only just discovered it after having it and test riding it for 3 weeks??
So it is ok to weld it then? |

Re: Headstocks damaged
Crikey Paws are you sure you only fell off at 10mph? Wouldn't have thought the lock stop would have been damaged by that. Did it run into the curb or something? The other thought is that the damage was already there when you bought the bike. Lockstops are only there, I believe, to stop you trapping your fingers between the bars and tank on full lock or possibly denting the tank.

Re: Headstocks damaged
Must be something garages have trouble spotting.
I had the same with a bandit that I had had a slight incident on. There was enough of the lock stop left so that they could put a bolt in to give the same effect. But the SV (curvy model, never looked at the pointy ones) has a very substantial lock stop compared to the bandit, so if it were me I'd be asking for a closer look at the frame and headstock just to be on the safe side. I think the lack of lock stop would mean an MOT fail? |

It's perfectly OK to weld it, as long as it's done properly. I think you're probably right, as far as I remember the lockstop is covered as part of the 'steering operation' part of the MOT. |

Im sure huni, and yes they are now saying it COULD have been damaged before, but i had her mot'd last year??!!...either way i'll just be glad to get her home. And lockstop is there to stop you squashing fingers etc. |
