Default One way to end a bank holiday weekend...

On the way home yesterday, pootling down a country road that's my regular route from work, see a car on the other side of a humpback bridge, hit the brakes to slow down and bang - suddenly I'm rolling down the road. Stand up, dust myself down and see this:

Now, when I'd dropped the bike I'd thought that's all that I had done - some broken indicators, some cracked fairings, maybe a bent clipon. What I didn't know was that the car on the other side of the bridge hadn't stopped, and had in fact smashed into my bike, pretty much ripping the front end off and throwing it into a tree.

As far as I can tell (no-one is sure) I locked the front end under braking and just lost it - rider error. Thankfully my kit largely held up and I've only got some gravel rash on my arms and knee, ankle's a little tender but I'm all in one piece - could have been a lot worse.

But of course - bike is a writeoff. Police said they don't think there is any grounds for prosecution - 'accidents happen' as they said.

But the main thing is that I made it out in one piece - luckily.

Blimey. This has not been a good weekend for people staying on their bikes. I nearly had an off today, my first one, so all these photos are pretty hard-hitting at the moment.

I'm glad you're not too banged up.

Looks like you need a new rear tyre.

Good effort.

Not another one.

Personally I think it's pretty good luck. Two bikes wrecked and it looks like little more than a bit of road rash.

No one else is allowed to crash now. Bank Holidays over.

Aargh these are not nice threads to read, photos are too graphic

Another lucky bugger, thank them lucky stars you weren't still on the bike when the car decided to plough into it! What a nasty shock for you though seeing your bike in that state
