I am an idiot
After recounting this story to a friend this evening, he insisted I post it on the internet so my stupity and humiliation can be global. So here goes.
A few months ago I decided that I would change the oil in my SV's forks for some higher viscsity stuff in order to firm up the front end a little. So I purchased some heavier fork oil and duly changed it. The bike certainly felt different, but I wasn't sure it felt any better. So I decided to put a little more oil in each fork leg as they still felt a little soft. I knew I had some fork oil knocking around in the garage and soon located it and set about measuring out how much I was going to put into each leg. It was at this point my brain disengaged. The new fork oil I was measuring out was a normal brown "oil" colour yet the fluid in the forks from the change a few weeks earlier was very definately blue. I had just opened a new bottle of fork oil (hadn't I ?) and it was brown ????? So what had I put in the forks last time ? antifreeze ? washing up liquid ? screenwash ? blue curacao ? So out comes the wheel, off with the mudgaurd etc and I change the oil again to the "proper" brown stuff. I'm just checking the level on the second fork leg and I haven't quite got enough oil. A quick rummage around and I find a second (sealed and definately unopenend) bottle of fork oil identical to the one that contained the brown oil. I open it and start to poor it into the fork leg, anyone want to guess what colour it is ? Its fecking blue isn't it. When I changed the oil last time I put the old oil back in the bottle the new stuff came in and put it back on the shelf and then I thought it was......... I hope you're happy now Marky |
