Default The great K6 crash bung swindle!

Went to Cupar today and bought some crash bungs. £49 and a journey home later couldn't wait to open the box. Boy did I get a surprise.

2 x 12mm allen bolts, 2 x washers and 2 x 12mm spacers, 2 x alloy bungs.

Showed the wife the bungs. "They look like the casters on the TV stand".

You guessed it...took the TV off the stand, turned it upside down and unscrewed the caster. Guess what! Same size, width, screws, material... slight different bevels. So I screwed the £49 bung into the TV stand.Wife now is ****ing herself laughing.

Ran down to Kay trailers in Milnathort...took one look at them and said they were bog standard chassis bungs. Said they could knock up a pair on the lathe for a fiver.

I'm now going to break up my leather couch, TV stand etc and sell it on ebay as SV650s spares.

That'll be the manufacturers bungs then?

Have a quick search through previous posts using the search feature at the top and you'll find plenty of similarly complimentary comments.

Thing is, if you ask any dealer for "bungs", chances are they'll sell you something similar. If you tell them you want to protect the bike from a drop - that's different - they'll probably explain that something better is required and guide you in the direction of R&G racing products. Much more convincing and effective.

Good luck with the eBay venture!

Cheers,

Garry

Incidentally, Suzuki crash bungs... Take 'em back to Cupar's, they're not fit for purpose. They actually cause damage in most crashes. Utter, utter, utter crap. If you have lowers and don't want to cut them buy some R&Gs, they're not great either but they're not a disaster. If you don't have lowers or you don't mind cutting them, I happily recommend Motosliders, they work better than R&G, they're cheap, and they look better.

Still fuming. Wife still laughing.

Don't know if Cupar will take them back. haven't fitted them to the bike yet.

Saw me coming - and that's a first!

any web links for bungs, 3rd party mods like seat cowls etc?

GSG Moko do great bungs, but I'm not sure if they work for the K6. JHS Racing used to do really good ones too, but not any more. (Loads of people still recommend the JHS ones, not realising they're not the same)

I use Motosliders, myself.

For pointy lowers, would R&G bungs be all I need to attach the lowers at the bung point. i.e. one less part of the fitting kit that I need?

I will vouch the mokos are great... I don't like my r&g's.

Stuart, no idea if they'll fit but the one's on my K1 are Sunrisers of Canada, linked off the site front page. Don't know if he made them for the pointy's or not, & his site's down at the moment.......???

You can see them on my bike below.
