Is it already restricted?
Is the SV650 already restricted from standard because everywhere i read it says the SV's top speed is 200kph 125mph but on here i read somewhere that they go up to nearly 140.
Is this because of aftermarket accessories? |

Naked 650 will do around 125, faired will do around 135 - aftermarket accessories such as can, filters etc won't make a huge difference on top speed

The only way to get a stock SV to a genuine 140mph would be to ride it down a cliff... The power drops off hard as you approach the limiter. Very few people will claim to have hit the limiter in top on a standard bike, and then you get the exagerration effect.- I think mine probably would, as it's nicely up on power, but the rate of climb drops right off after you hit a real 125. You'd need real patience and a lack of mechanical empathy to get it all the way. Or much lower gearing

i've had an indicated 140 - so about 120/125 real - and that was on the limiter in 6th, so i don't think you could go any faster on standard S gearing.
i'm not sure if i technically hit the limiter though - it was reading around 11.5krpm in 6th (so 500rpm into the red) and that was approximately where the limiter had been hit in other gears it really didn't have much more to give (maybe 1-2 mph indicated if i had waited a few minutes!) i must have a lack of mechanical empathy :P |

my fully faired curvy used to top out at an indicated 139mph. when i changed my front tyre i went up 10 on the profile and now it does 129mph. i feel that this has made the speedo very accurate.

I worked it out a while back, and running the speedo on a 120/70 reduces the error by about half. Running it off the rear with the 160 makes it closer again.
