Default What should an SV650S 2000 Idle at?

My Uncle thought it was idling higher than it should but it doesn't seem to mind

Cold She'll Idle at around 1600/1800 and hot around 2000/2200

Is that normal? Should I adjust her, I like the mentality of if it isn't broke down fix it

Should be according to Haynes 1500 +/- 50 rpm, i have a 1999 modal which idles very slightly under the 1500 mark. Idles a bit slower wehn cold but picks up as it warms up

That idle is to high, like Davey said the book value is 1500, but I had mine idling at 1000 rpm with no problem - I liked the lumpy sound

Best for the engine is an idle between 1300 and 1500rpm.
Lower idle causes heavier load changes, higher idle is pointless as it only causes more fuel consumption.

So yeah I should get back under the paneling and have a tweak then. What page in the Haynes'll show me how to do it. I'll also change teh spark plugs when I do as I know how much changing the front one is :/ And helpful tips on that?

Look in this gap in the frame and you should see a little black plastic wheel (the arrow is pointing right at it). Turn that to adjust the idle - I can't remember in which direction but you'll soon work that out.

This may sound like an entirely stupid question but just want to check its ok for me to adjust this while the engine is running? Would make it so much easier to get it the right spot I would have thought is all.

Yes it's fine and is in fact the correct way to do it. Worth blipping the throttle after each adjustment, then let the bike settle to idle to see where it's at.
