Default SV650s K7 pointy - jerkiness and poor idle

Hi all,

I'm a complete newbie to the forum and SV owners clan after buying my first SV650s K7 on Saturday. Sadly already a couple of problems.

I have 2 issues which may or may not be related - I've done some digging around the forum but can't find any threads where both issues are present.

Bike specifics - 2007, scorpion can, otherwise standard, 48k miles.

issue 1 - jerkiness at low revs. I got the bike from a garage and they said it's a little jerky but they couldn't find anything causing it. It seems to be at about 4000-5000 rpm when at constant speed (never under acceleration) where it jerks intermittently. Looking at threads this could be TPS but then I also have the second issue...

issue 2 - once the engine is warm the idle is erratic, it drops from around 1200 to 900, constantly up and down. Occasionally it stalls and won't start again unless I give it a bit of throttle, but if i let go off the throttle it will instantly die. It takes a few times to get it going again. The idle is fine and constant on cold start and revs high until warm and then settles nicely after 10-20 seconds.

I'm not sure if the two issues are related or if they are seperate but it's annoying the hell out of me. I want to avoid taking the bike back to the garage to check it over if it's simple fix, or I can at least rule out a couple of things before hand as I need my bike to ride to work.

Any suggests from the trusty SV riders?

Thanks,

It's got to be worth a try adjusting the TPS, that's a cost free process if you've got a T25 security bit (I didn't so it cost me £1.85).

yeah i'll definitely give that a go over the weekend.

is that likely to be causing problems with the idle though?

I don't claim to be an expert on the SVs, but when I adjusted my TPS it certainly made the idle erratic when I moved it too far. I was also thinking that trying the adjustment might help you see if the sensor is behaving as it should.

I'm trying to pick up as much information on my SV as possible.
So could somebody please humour me ... What's TPS?

Second for trying the tps(throttle position sensor), otherwise sounds like potentially a carb issue? Was the bike sat for long before you bought it?

i would check the TPS, Battery connections/condition and air/vacuum hoses. the hoses usually throw up an FI light on the dash.

other things to check, oil level, spark plugs and air filter.

Throttle balance first, then TPS.

Fairly common symptoms of unbalanced intake - and easy to check.
