Default Headlight bulb upgrade

Not SV related sorry - but it is for a Suzuki

My GS125 takes 35/35 3 prong bulbs like this...

http://www.bitzforbikes.co.uk/Headli...-10066-91.html

but for whatever reason it blows them about once a month. I have checked all the wiring, connectors, battery voltage etc etc to no avail - I did find a link to a website where someone suggested starting the bike continuously with the lights on could cause the bulb to blow... Anyway, after buying my 4th bulb I am now getting fed up with this and with the darker evenings I don't want to go out to it and find no headlight for the trip home (although I could just full beam it all the way..!)

The 3 prong bulb isn't that easy to come by either - I have been everywhere in my home town and no one stocks them. Ordering them online is basically £5 a pair. Aaaaand the light they put out is worse than woeful - certainly more for being seen than seeing where you are going!

So some Googling came up with this...

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SUZUKI-GS1...p2054897.l4275

Brighter bulbs and easier replacements to buy (if the issue continues - which I hope it wont as H4 bulbs look stronger internally than the flimsy looking HL777027 things) - it looks like a no brainer...?

Anyone got any advice/thoughts to offer?

Is the chargeing system and loom ok to manage the extra load
Oh the twist and turn contacts on this type of bulb can suffer with vibration and lead to premature bulb failer

That is my concern... To be honest I can live with the woeful light output - its the constant replacement that I want to sort out!

My 8 mile commute is all C-roads which are fairly bumpy so that could be adding to the problem...

If replacement bulbs are hard to locate, then perhaps change the headlight & bulb system.

I know it might be expensive, but in the long run?

If not, get one of them new LED cycle lights as a standby to get you home.

The light will be better than what you've got anyway, as you'll be able to see where you are going

Thanks Dickie - didn't think of that - so that headlight I linked to above - coupled with a 35/35 H4 bulb - job jobbed! D'oh!

It was always an option in the 1980's to chage the headlight to a CIBIE h4 one, as the headlights in the 80's were appalling.

These days its not such a problem?

My 1997 GS125 is the same (pretty much) as the 1982 model! In fact the MOT guy said he remembered working on them as an apprentice and he is now 50 and he said looking at my bike was like a step back in time! lol

I think I will go with the H4 replacement light and some 35/35 H4 bulbs - thanks for your help
