Speeding question.
I was riding at * in a 60 limit on a rural "A" road where I passed a concealed police car (not a camera van) parked at 90 degrees to the road behind a hedge, 50-100 feet off the road. He made no attempt to come after me despite there being no traffic. Do these regular cars carry cameras?

Re: Speeding question.
I don't think they have a proper speed camera in unmarked cars, but not certain. Also if you're only doing 70 on a 60 limit road it's unlikely to get their 'speeding biker' senses twitching. You should be OK.

Re: Speeding question.
Traffic cars should all have forward facing video and ANPR, but from your description it doesn't sound like they would have enough evidence to take action.
In theory it would just take the opinion of the officers inside the car that you were speeding to convict, but in practice they would be expected to come up with some evidence to present in court. So I wouldn't worry about it. Just my thoughts, Keith. |

Re: Speeding question.
I would get your tin foil hat on quick, and possibly delete this thread. You have after all just openly admitted to committing a crime on a public website.....
I wouldn't worry about it. I doubt the copper was even awake, probably having a doze. |

That far back from the road and in the position you say, even with a camera it doesn't sound like they'd be able to get a picture of your plate. As others say, probably just resting up.

Re: Speeding question.
Notice how police cars drive on motorways and dual carriageways at about 60 or a bit less, they want as many vehicles to pass them as they can get to enable ANPR to do its job.

Re: Speeding question.
Quote:
A few years back I might have been doing a little more than 70 mph in my car. I slowed when I saw a 'battenberg' in lane one and went past at 71 mph. Fortunately, I was feeling cautious so I stuck to 70mph for a mile or two. Two minutes later the police car came along lane three at somewhat more than 70 mph and pulled in behind me in lane two. He had seen how fast I approached from behind and was expecting to pull me a few miles down the road. Sometimes there's no substitute for being lucky. Keith.
