2017 SV versus 2018 SV
I've just noticed that the 2018 SV has gained 1kg and lost 0.7l fuel capacity, I wonder why. Maybe the 2 tone paint is heavier

Re: 2017 SV versus 2018 SV
There were two different tank capacities for the original AL7 when launched, one of them was smaller to accomodate more eco gubbins.
Maybe the eco gubbins has been relocated to allow fitment of the larger tank? |

Re: 2017 SV versus 2018 SV
From December 2016..
https://www.motorcyclenews.com/news/...-really-means/ Euro 4 affects all new models introduced in 2016, and all new bikes from 2017. So, for example, the new Honda Africa Twin, new Suzuki GSX-R1000 and Yamaha MT-10 are all Euro 4 compliant, and by 2017 all existing new bikes will have to be too. Some models already are, because similar emissions requirements to Euro 4, including the evaporative emissions test, have been in force in California for several years. Euro 4 compliance also included ABS brakes, funny that MCN article did not mention SV650 AL7, although maybe because it was not available in UK until Spring 2016.

Re: 2017 SV versus 2018 SV
Probably just means they've changed the way they measure it.
Besides which, has anyone ever tried actually filling up an empty tank to it's advertised capacity? It kinda resides firmly in the realms of theory. Possibly quantum theory.

Re: 2017 SV versus 2018 SV
One of the pages on the sv650.org site I've found repeatedly useful, which is unfortunately not maintained any more, is the model history: https://www.sv650.org/model_history_...el_history.htm
Has anyone got an archive of the more recent images? It'd be interesting to compare the tank shapes ... |

To answer myself ... you can grab them from the Suzuki website. The tanks look near identical to me externally.

Re: 2017 SV versus 2018 SV
the "California" model has always had a supposedly smaller tank even back to the first gen SV. its something to do with the filling neck/gas nozzle boot and expansion of fuel. in reality though they are exactly the same tank.
