USD down fork lowers - paint type?
Hey,
My GSXR forks have scratches on the lowers (where the caliper bolts into) - any ideas on paint type? Just want to touch it in rather than respray them or whatever! Ta

Re: USD down fork lowers - paint type?
they are not painted they are anodised. this is evident if you have ever heated them up with a blow torch.
get a sharpie and cover the scratches. |

Re: USD down fork lowers - paint type?
The parts the calipers bolt into are anodized? Are you sure about that? It looks more like high temp wrinkle paint or similar...I'm not talking about the sliders or the stanchions...
Those little buggers

Re: USD down fork lowers - paint type?
If it were me, I would spray them with UHT silver as it is low build high opacity and so retains the texture underneath. Touch up is a piece of cake in future.
Looks like anodising to me though. |

Interesting, I always assumed anodizing was a smoother feel. You learn something new everyday!

I assume anodizing (which is not very thick) takes the texture of the surface it is applied to. Most anodized things feel smooth because they were finely machined before being anodized. interesting read ............. http://www.docsmachine.com/tech/anod.html

Re: USD down fork lowers - paint type?
I know they have to polish a surface or the finish will be dull. I'll check that link tonight.
Decided I'm going to buy some touch up paint for street triple frames, has a very similar colour.
