Default Factory Rear Huggers

Went out for 100 or so miles on saturday morning and the tyres got very warm and sticky and got home to discover after only 500 miles a damn stone has flicked up and chipped the very edge of my rear hugger

Black permenant marker has made it nearly invisible, but for something so likely to to be hit with stones i would have thought they would have made it tougher ?

Anyone else suffered the same fate?
