Re: not so much fly as plummet
Bloody hell, that looked VERY painful.
In terms of the unexpected, it reminds me of a very near miss I had, which means that I'm now always very cautious about blind corners on ANY road, no matter how well I know that road. I was on my old GT380 and approaching a sweeping but blind bend on a road I know very well. Commit to the corner at about 50mph, and just after the apex there's the rear end of an articulated lorry stopped in the middle of the road. I grab and stamp on everything I can, and the next thing I know, I'm stopped on the narrow pavement next to the artic's trailer, level with its rear axles. I have NO idea how it happened, but somehow I'd steered the bike up a dropped kerb just before the rear of the trailer and braked to a stop on the pavement. Then I started thinking about "what if there hadn't been a pavement or dropped kerb?" and "what if there'd been someone walking on the pavement at the time?" Took me 15 minutes to stop shaking from the adrenaline and fear, then I rode home very carefully. A lesson well and truly learned. |

Re: not so much fly as plummet
Not a High speed one or anywhere near as bad as the OP's video but last year there was a Car stalled on this famous N.Y moors incline hidden until you take the bend and then go upwards. The Google map doesn't do the incline justice as it's after the tight bend.

Re: not so much fly as plummet
You only do that once.... either you learn or die! I did something similar mountain biking years ago, leaped off a mound of earth going "Oh Yeah!" to look down and see myself sailing over a cliff.... Luckily it was only 8 foot high or so, so a bad winding and some bruises is all I got. Since then I have always 'looked before leaping' (with a notable exception) and not had a repeat.

Re: not so much fly as plummet
There's a similar bend but downhill with adverse camber as you cross the border into Scotland on the A68. It had been dry for weeks but that morning there had been a fog on the hill. I was driving my partners 2 year old Nissan 200sx (RWD) and as I gently braked to take the bend, the rear tyres let go and I did a full 360, ending up with 2 wheels on the nearside verge and facing the original direction. I never told her what I had done and got away with it because there was no damage to the car.
