Default Engine failure

Just got a call from mr suzuki (Saltire) after my engine going Bing bang boom boom then nothing on the last ice-cream rideout..

it was caused by the throttle coming loose from the rest of the engine. musta been all those bends whilst heading up to perth, no harm done.
(unfortunately not covered by waranty, due to it being wear and tear)

cost of repair - £18
(£168 including £150 for it's 4,000 mile service) It coulda been worse!

Again thanks for everyone's help. hopefully pick the bike up 2morrow!

If this is a bike you bought new & it's under 2 years old I don't see how Suzuki aren't liable for this. If it's what you've described, it's either snapped or it's been poorly assembled in the 1st place. How old & what mileage, & what dealer?

Anyone heard of a cable/warranty issue?

OYB, thats not wear and tear, it's a warranty claim. Absolutely no doubt. Throttle components should not work loose on an 06 plate 4000 mile bike. Did it go to Cupar or Saltire? In fact anything that causes a bike that age to break down (other than bad fuel) should be sorted for you free of charge with a minimum of fuss, warranty or not. Don't pay for it.

OK, guys time to rally round and help out OYB here, I think they see a 19yr old walk in and think they can take the ****. Can everyone who is Scotland based and reads this (and agree's that this should be warranty), please post here so On Yer Bike, can print it off and take it with him?

With so many of the guys posting in SV Ecosse, being customers of Saltire or Cupar, I can't imagine either dealer would try to argue this one (given the service reputation of both I'm surprised and disappointed, it's the kind of stuff you expect from Jim A or Mick O)

OYB, change the title of this to include "all SV Ecosse please read", print this off and use it as a last resort bargaining tool if they try to stick to thier guns on it. Point out the locations of all the members down the left hand side and make them fully aware you'll be posting the outcome on here.

Depends on exactly what's happened, really...

I took it to Saltire in edinburgh, it's just closer 2 me, and easier to get to. I'll see what they say when I pick it up as it wasn't that clear over the phone. If I see grounds for an argument and they disagree I'll contact suzuki direct. But I'll need more info on what happened and what caused it as northy says, So I'l ask them for more information 2morrow morning when I pick it up.

Do you think this may have been causing my bike to "stutter/hesitate" when accelerating? I noticed it did this at times, even when the engine had been warmed up after a half days run etc. In which case its been loose ever since it was run in.

see: http://forums.sv650.org/showthread.php?t=78169

Cheers

*Ralph, I changed the title, but it doesn't seem to change it on the forum*

Nothing in the throttle assembly is a 'wearable item'

Without a doubt warranty. infact its easier to mention things that aren't covered.

friction materials (clutch, brake pads)
fluids - brake fluid, oil, water
drives- chain, cambelts
and lamps!

Basically anything you'd expect to wear!

If it'sonly a connecting that neded doing up (£18 and no parts sounds like it), then vibration causing a connection to come undone (or no lok-tight) should be covered by general maintinance and won't be a warrenty job, just seen as poor maintinance by them.

Cheers Mark

Thumbs down Re: Engine failure

I'm on the edge of my seat for this one! Mibbe warranty, mibbe naw but either way where's the customer service? They risk ****ing off a customer for a lousy 18 quid! How about this for a script...

Them: "Good to see you again Marius, your machine's ready. The engine problem was just a loose throttle connector by the way."

You: "Oh, how much to put it right?"

Them: "No don't worry about it. See you at 7500."

I'm more inclined to think you're getting mugged because it's only an SV rather than because of your age but then again I am very bitter and cynical now I'm 40.

Got the bike back from saltire just now, they decided to do the repair for free, saying it isn't worth it for them to claim it back from suzuki.

The entire throttle body had came apart from the actual engine. Not sure how long its been loose, as I noticed a big increase in power on the way home. Its now better than when it was new! Holly Sh*t, and Wow came to mind on the ride back!

I'm guessing it's had this problem for a while, as it is a completely different bike.

Thanks people.
