Paddock stands

Just wondered what paddock stands people reccomend to use with a pointy. Any to stay away from and how are they to use?

Used a Micron rear stand with my curvy, was stable & relatively easy to use without 2nd person help. Can't imagine it would be much different for pointy use.

Dont make the mistake of going for the cheap £20 ones. It's not worth it. Get a decent set. Although I can't advice you what make it good because I dont know! lol
I made the mistake I was just talking about and scratched my swingarm

I use a cheapie bike-it rear paddock stand that just slotted under the swing-arm, however I now have modified it by fitting hook lifters so I can lift it by the rear swing arem slider spools... much easier to operate if you are on your own.

For the front paddock stand I'd highly reccomend a headstock lifter. They are so secure compared to the usual front fork paddock stands. And also on the plus side if you need to whip the forks out you dont have to use axle stands and strops.

I have just bought a Harris stainless steel bobbin type for my K5 direct from
Harris. It was delivered the next day and I got a small discount. The stand
is perfect in every way, rock solid and no problem lifting the bike on single
handed and I am getting on in years.
Don't go for any of the others you get what you pay for with the Harris.
Got the bobbins on Ebay as there is a large selection available.

Also if you still have the bike in a year or two you may need to remove the rear swing arm to clean up and lube the bearings. The Abba stand with an adaptor kit lets you do this easily. You can't remove the swingarm using a normal paddock stand.

Ok buy an Abba just in case you want to lube the the swing arm bearings in a year or
two, but you will still wish you had got a Harris, you can pop it up on the harris in the time it takes to pick up an Abba and it's more compact and less dosh and stainless steel !

Abba's good for other jobs, such as changing the shock or dropping the forks- far more stable than a rear stand and jack for front end work, such as removing the wheels. Getting front and rear stands adds a lot to the price.

Still, I love both my Abba and my Harris stand, they both have their place... For quick use the Harris is far better, for heavy use the Abba is the daddy.

So, the correct answer is, "What will you use it for". I had one of those rubbish Bike-It ones, it fell apart after a year or so of constant use but it served absolutely fine till that happened, and in that time I used it more than most folks would in 5 years I reckon. If you want it for light use, they'll do you fine. If you want it to last forever, then NWS or Harris are the way to go I reckon.
